Shenzhen metro and transport guide

Shenzhen gets easier once your transport stack works.

Metro

The metro is the most predictable way around the city, especially at rush hour and for anyone who wants to avoid traffic.

Taxis and ride hailing

Didi covers apartment viewings, supplier meetings, late nights, and any trip with luggage or samples. Save addresses in Chinese and expect a phone call from the driver.

Border and airport logic

The Hong Kong border is useful, but crossing still takes planning. Check checkpoint hours, your visa status, luggage rules, and onward transport on both sides.

High-speed rail

High-speed rail connects Shenzhen to Guangzhou, Dongguan, Hong Kong, and the rest of the country. Worth the ticket for any supplier visit outside the city.

Commute planning rule

Distance is the wrong question. Ask:

  • Is it on the same metro line?
  • How many transfers?
  • Peak hour or not?
  • Luggage or samples?
  • Is a taxi faster or slower at that time?
  • Can a driver find the exact gate or building?
